Stormwater BMP Vegetation Maintenance – Scope Overview

The Southern Rhode Island Conservation District is seeking qualified landscape maintenance contractors to perform seasonal care and upkeep of vegetated stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). Work will focus solely on the planted and grassed areas surrounding rain gardens, bioretention cells, tree trenches, and swales — not on any subsurface systems, basins, or structural components.

Typical tasks include mowing, trimming, and selective pruning of vegetation; removal of weeds and invasive species; re-seeding or planting as needed; mulching; trash and debris removal; and maintenance of healthy soil and turf conditions. Contractors should have experience with native or adapted plant species, stormwater vegetation management, and safe maintenance practices near drainage infrastructure. Regular seasonal visits will be expected to ensure plant vigor, aesthetics, and BMP performance for stormwater filtration and infiltration.
